Far from the madding crowd but only 30 miles from London, The Green Escape on Leith Hill, in Surrey, is the place to go to indulge in your favourite pastimes.

Whether you want to cosy up in front of a woodburning stove; stride out and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; toast marshmallows over a campfire; or weave a willow ornament, you can do it all in this beautiful, secluded 6 acre woodland.

Available exclusively for groups of up to 20 people, the whole site is yours for the taking to share with your friends, family or colleagues in complete privacy.

The nearest neighbours, are a flock of sheep in the field outside. And the nearest house, a field away, is Leith Hill Place, former home of Ralph Vaughn Williams and site for Charles Darwin’s study of earthworms, which will open as a Visitor Centre this summer.

The Green Escape is high in eco credentials but more importantly it will give you the freedom to just be. To relax and unwind so when you have to leave, you’ll leave refreshed.

What to do…
(Beer & Cake anyone?)
That’s if you don’t over indulge! Your nearest pub is only 10 minutes walk away, but there are pubs all around with home cooking, local beers, log fires; cream tea rooms, cricket greens – more beer and cake, mountain bike tracks, the Olympic cycle route, picturesque villages to visit, fetes and flower shows (and more beer and cake). There really is so much to do.

If you want to try something new there’s an activity to suit everyone with ‘Have Go Workshops’ to make your stay even more special. From Art to bushcraft, from foraging to Yoga, guided walks and bike rides making a special celebration, corporate group, hen or stag visit a unique and memorable experience.

Nestled amongst the trees ‘The Bales’ is our straw bale lodge providing a sheltered hub for the group. Cook, dine and make merry while enjoying the views of the beautiful landscape in every direction. When the weather is less than clement, it’s big enough to do Yoga or Art or any of the activities you choose, from our sister site ‘Have A Go Workshops’ which will launch soon.

Stress free is The Green Escape mantra, so you don’t need to bring anything and the kitchen will be stocked with all your basic utensils, kitchenware and condiments. Our neighbours at Etherley Farm, have a small shop with logs to buy, free range eggs, delicious duck sausages and chicken.

We are also happy to provide a Breakfast Basket or Locally Sourced starter pack of food for your stay, just let us know and we’ll send you details when you book.

Building with straw bales is not only sustainable but also provides natural insulation, sound proofing and is fire retardant. With the warmth of the woodburning stove and the glow of the solar lights and candles, many a happy hour will pass in The Bales.
